Active Fakenham has a busy summer ahead and there are plenty of opportunities to join in with the fun.
The riverside community fun day includes rubber duck and cardboard raft races. Richard Crook, from Active Fakenham, one of the organisers said, “This is a popular event that makes the best use of our fantastic surroundings. There will be stalls, food and bouncy castles. Local businesses can sponsor their own “giant Duck” and decorate it to showcase their support for the community. Entries for the cardboard raft races are looking good and although some are not overly seaworthy they are a lot of fun and show commitment and imagination. Entry is free and the community ducks are only £1.
The “Get Active in Fakenham Week” in August includes nine days of activities taster sessions and promotions. As well as organising their own events Active Fakenham produces extensive publicity to promote other organisations taking part. There is no cost to those offering activities or events. Richard said, “We distribute the programme to around 10,000 households and use social media and websites. It is an opportunity for local groups and businesses to showcase themselves. We only ask that activities are low cost or free and have some element of well-being included. The timescale is tight, and we need information by Monday 13th June, The entry forms are on the website. In the past we have had up to fifty activities over the nine days which can range from sports, music, dance, free gym sessions, creative writing, yoga, bridge, and even cake decoration.
For six weeks from the 21st July Active Fakenham will be offering free cycle safety checks and a mini service on Fakenham Thursday market. In addition they will offer space to local community groups to share the market stall. Richard said, “so far we are being joined by the British Heart Foundation, but we have more space available so if an organisation wants to join us please contact me.”
