Fakenham is ten miles from the North Norfolk coast and Active Fakenham hosts a week of activities prior to the ride. There is plenty of parking, some of it free, and buses from Norwich, Kings Lynn and the Coast. Why not come for a longer break over the Bank Holiday weekend? You can learn more about some places to stay at  http://fakenhamfairways.uk/caravan-camping/, https://www.visitnorthnorfolk.com/ and http://www.fakenhamracecourse.co.uk/caravan-camping-at-fakenham-racecourse-norfolk/

What do I do when I arrive?

You must report to the Community Centre, register and receive your welcome pack. Don’t forget to report back at the end of your ride or we will be looking for you.

What can the mechanic help me with?

Every rider will be given an emergency number to contact the mechanic at any stage of the race, should there be any mechanical difficulty. Please try to sort out your own minor problems. Riders should bring their own puncture repair kit and pump, as the mechanic will not be doing this. There will be experienced cyclists going around the route with you who will be happy to help.

What if I haven’t got a bike?

We can help you to hire a bike and some local people may be able to lend bikes on the understanding that if you damage it you get it repaired.

Am I insured, do I need a helmet, can I use TriBars and what happens if I am injured?

The event has £10 million liability insurance through British Cycling. This does not cover damage to your bike or theft of your bike or personal property; you are advised to have your own insurance for this. We have taken every step to ensure that the ride is as safe as possible. You are responsible for your personal safety on the public road. We will have MED-PTS at the community centre. It is a requirement of our insurance and British Cycling that you wear a helmet. If you would like to buy (or possibly borrow) one on the day, please get in touch. TriBars are forbidden by British Cycling and our insurance company.

Can I change the distance/ride I have signed up for?

Yes, this is not a problem. You can sort this out at registration on the day.

I have a food allergy; will this be a problem at the ‘feed stations’?

It may be depending on your allergy. There may be traces of nuts in the flapjack and other snacks (although we have not added them). If you are concerned, please get in touch.

Child Trailer Bikes

I have been asked about child trailers on the Fakenham 50. These are ok and are covered by our British Cycling insurance, but you need to make sure they are in good working order and be aware our breakdown rescue service may not be able to carry them back to HQ. As with all riders you need to ensure you ride safely and stick to the guidelines and rules – and, of course have a fun time.

Can I use an electric bike?

Yes but make sure you have a fully charged battery. We will not be able to sort out electrical issues.
